When we moved into our house 3 years ago, it was virtually done head to toe. But we wanted to customize it and make it our own…one room at a time. I FINALLY got around to our second bedroom after we moved our office into the basement and I am very excited to share the reveal with you now. The goal was to take a risk with wall colour, while still having a cozy, comfortable space. And of course, I wanted to keep the bedroom makeover affordable! I determined that I could reinvent the space by…
- Painting one wall (I actually only needed one quart to finish this small wall)
- Updating the linens
- Grabbing one new lamp (Home Sense find!)
- And completing a DIY piece of art!
Here’s the finished product!!
I decided on painting one wall Benjamin Moore’s Raccoon Fur. It is a great “black” paint option for walls, furniture and doors. The reason I love this hue is because at different times of the day it can look grey or particularly navy. It is such a beautiful colour and really draws the eye into the room. Having a dark focal wall also makes the room feel a bit bigger!I kept the bedding light with soft linens and grey striped jersey sheets & pillowcases. The bed pops against the dark paint colour and definitely makes me want to jump in! On the far wall, I decided to keep a floating shelf from when it was our office. Black and white framed photos of our travels keep the room on a monochromatic track.I love the antique brass table lamp I found at Home Sense for only 39.99! With so much black and white in the space, it really stands out. And it gives off great task light at night, warming up the space. Other small accessories complete my vignette – a clock, candle and bit of greenery. I had two wooden crates sitting around the house from another project, so I decided to repaint them white. It was a quick and easy nightstand solution when stacked on top of each other. They also allow a bit of open storage and I can easily move them around should I choose to. Bonus that it cost next to nothing too! I included my Nana’s bedside table glass decanter here so guests can grab some water if they need to.I got this wonderful idea from Nicole – to create my own book page artwork and it was relatively easy to do. I took the design to Staples and printed out the biggest size I could. The last book I received from my Nana was A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens, so I hold it dear to my heart. I thought this quote from the novel was very fitting, thinking it would inspire some good dreams in the future. So what do you think of my dramatic bedroom makeover on a budget? I spent around 250.00 dollars and I think the result is well worth it! I would love to hear your thoughts…would you ever consider painting a wall black??
xo
it turned out so amazing and love the book page as art!!
Thank you!!!
LOVE the black wall. I’m debating where to paint this in this colour at my house! Great work:)
Thanks so much Lindsay! I loved it so much I’m even updating a piece of furniture with it in high gloss. I hope you find the perfect spot 🙂
Hey! I really like your blog, and this post especially. I was just wondering how you made this print… did you take an actual book to Staples and they were able to enlarge one page of it? Please let me know, as this is a really cool idea!
Hey! Thanks for stopping by! I actually created the image myself in photoshop and made it look like a book page. I only wrote out the quote I wanted and the saved the image. I sent the digital copy to staples and got it printed within a day. Pretty simple but knowledge of photoshop would obviously be helpful! Other programs would probably work well too though 🙂 Hope that helps and let me know if you have anymore questions xx
Did you have a frame custom-made for this print? I’m so glad I found this post as I’m considering Raccoon Fur for a walk in our master and have been wanting to make a book page quote like this for over a year! If you can share the size of the frame that would be amazing! Cheers
It’s been awhile since I did this project so I’m having a hard time remembering sorry! I know that I got the frame at Target though. And I just had the art printed to fit the frame I found. Also, I painted my son Jack’s room Raccoon Fur too if you want to pop over and see that!
