The other day, you saw my inspiration post for the Lady Laurier’s shared laundry and mudroom. Today, I thought I would delve a little deeper and feature my design ideas for the space, as well as, some pretty decor items I love to add to any laundry room! First thing’s first – here’s the inspiration board:
Because I want the Lady Laurier to be more of a transitional/contemporary home, I decided to steer away from brass. Instead I’m mixing in a lot of black and nickel. One constant theme I hope to carry through the whole house is herringbone and so, the flooring choice here will be a soft grey porcelain tile, laid in a herringbone pattern. The built ins will be on the right with space to sit, storage for all the odds and ends and, of course, spots to hang coats. On the left, a sink area with a fun industrial inspired matte black faucet.
White cabinetry will be timeless and contrast against the wood shelf (with black brackets), as well as, the butcher block counters. Instead of doing a typical tiled backsplash, I’d like to do something fun! Removable wallpaper or some decals would really add some interest and can be taken down at any time.
Now, when looking at this design without any added accessories, it seems a little too monochromatic. But that’s where some simple decor touches will make this space come together. Here are some of my favourites (and an idea of how I would stage!!!)…
Some added colour and textures would make this laundry mudroom look so inviting. It’s as simple as a vintage inspired indoor/outdoor rug (for all the traffic coming from outside), baskets or hampers for storage, a great catchall for pocket findings and a letter board for a cheeky saying or two. Add in some greenery and some soft hand towels…a heavenly candle doesn’t hurt either!
