As I approach the day where this little bean comes into the world, I’ve started preparing in a big way. I am fortunate to have a baby shower to look forward to and so, with that, comes a baby registry. As soon as Ryan and I embarked on this task of creating a registry, I quickly realized a lot of baby stuff is, well…ugly. There I said it!! But it’s true! So much of it is overdone on the colour and, you know me, I’m all about going simple and neutral. Now, I know that someday soon I will probably lose that battle with my sweet boy but for now, while I can call the shots, this mama is going modern and neutral!
First off, this list is by no means complete, because, let’s face it, a lot of the items that go on a baby registry are pretty boring! I have included things like breast pads, a bathtub and washcloths, safety items and baby hangers, for instance. I’ve also got a lot more clothes listed…and trips to Joe Fresh, Baby Gap, H&M and Zara have been slightly dangerous. I can’t resist, people! Below is a list of items that I think are both practical and classic. I love that, with a little more effort, you can find items that make up a modern neutral baby registry!
SIMPLE ONESIES / I registered for a whole whack of different baby clothes and everything is pretty neutral. Did you know that Burt’s Bees has baby clothes like this jumper? And, of course, Aden & Anais have some beautiful baby kimonos.
MUSLIN SWADDLES / For swaddling and snuggling, I’m a big fan of the Aden and Anais Muslin Blankets for their softness and versatility. Also, how great are the high contrast black and white ones?! I’m also loving the feel of the Numpfer Blanket.
BANDANA BIBS / Baby’s drool..a lot. I love the look of these Bandana bibs since they’ll still look cute with lots of outfits. And my boy is going to be stylish 🙂
PACIFIER / The Wubbanub Pacifier toy is so cute and gives baby something to hold onto. One of my friends also pointed out that when it gets dropped, it becomes a lot easier to pick up and find in a packed diaper bag, for instance. Smart!
CARRIER / Everyone has a different opinion when it comes to carriers but when we actually went in store and tried them on, we knew which one we preferred right away. It was the Mountain Buggy Juno Carrier and I love that it comes in a soft grey. I am also eyeing up a Solly Baby Wrap too, more so for me around the house. I’ve heard SUCH good things about them!
DIAPER BAG / I think I may do a whole post on diaper bags since I’ve spent so much time looking for the perfect option that won’t break the bank. I do really like this neutral one that has all the bells and whistles including a change pad.
VIDEO MONITOR / As a first time mom, I know I’ll be pretty paranoid and on constant alert! So a good video monitor like this one is definitely going on the list.
BATH TIME / Besides an actual tub, I included a cute little hooded towel by Pehr Designs to keep him warm after bath and some shampoo + body wash by the Honest Co. I love this company and I hope to use a lot of their products, including diapers. Another option I’d love is using the amazing organic Pura Baby products. I did a full post on them here!
DOCKATOT / I’ve been seeing this item everywhere. It’s basically a one-stop-shop for play, sleep, cuddling, diaper changes, tummy time, and more, which is great. I hope that getting this will eliminate the need for a whole other bassinet. We shall see…any thoughts people?!
STROLLER / Again, such a personal choice. But we heard amazing things about the UPPAbaby Cruz stroller. It’s pretty compact and sleek and yet, seems really durable and practical for me. Plus, it opens in a cinch which will be important in the day to day. I’m also getting the same company’s car seat too.
DIAPER PAIL / I’ll be able to keep the nursery free of odours with this diaper pail. And because it’s white, it will basically disappear in the nursery design – very important for me!
FEEDING KIT / I do plan to breastfeed as long as I can manage so I will need to pump, etc. I’m going to purchase the Medela Hands Free Pump. I’ve heard good things about the Joovy Boob Bottles and also, this Chicco starter kit too, which includes a bottle brush and sterilizer. Or you could just grab the sterilizer too!
MEDELA TENDER CARE / Taking care of those nips will be important. So I’m stocking up on the Medela cream.
NURSING PILLOW / This Boppy pillow is award winning and such a good investment for breast feeding. Plus, you can buy whatever slip cover you’d like.
THE SOFT STUFF / The nursery has to have some softness. I’ve already bought this Anthropologie blanket but I’d totally use this one for tummy time or for putting it underneath a wooden play gym (which I’m also obsessing over!). Besides a few stuffed animals, one like this that is attached to a small blanket gives him something to hang onto and bond with.
SLEEP SACK / When it comes to spending a night in the crib, I’d prefer a sleep sack to a swaddle or blanket. The Bebe au Lait one is darling.
HUMIDIFIER / I like this basic style – again something like this should disappear in the room but it’s still really important to have in our dry climate!
STORAGE / I plan on having quite a few seagrass and woven baskets in the nursery but small ones like this Pehr Designs one is perfect for inside drawers, closets or as a catch all on top of the change table. Also, these drawer organizers will fit nicely in my dresser and help me keep everything in order.
Moms: what are your must-have items that I should make sure to have on my baby registry? What items could you do WITHOUT? Also, feel free to tell me about any other sources for cute baby clothes 🙂

Thank you so much Gabriella! I am all about the gender neutral even though I know I’m having a boy. Who knows what the next one will be right 😉
