With only a week or so under our belt, the Grand Glenora is already transforming! I can’t believe how much we’ve already accomplished in a short amount of time, with the demo going super fast and smooth. That’s what makes these processes so exciting – just how quickly it all changes. We also have the weather to consider. Wanting to get a lot of the exterior done before the snow comes, we have to work even harder. You never know what mother nature will bring, especially in Edmonton. A big snowfall (like the one we just had lol) could really throw our plans for the exterior. And because we plan to list early in the new year, it’s not like we will have warm weather then to catch up on anything we missed now.
Anyways, like all demo days in previous houses, we tend to find some surprises, both good and bad. Don’t worry…no bombs this time! This house’s demo revealed:
- sections of the house that need more work than we originally suspected (bad – but nothing we can’t handle)
- a few load baring walls that have changed our layout plans (bad/good – back to the drawing board we go, getting more creative!)
- a gorgeous brick chimney running through all the levels (unreal good news!! Especially because it’s in great condition!)
Want to see how far we’ve come already?! And by WE, I really mean the guys. This belly and me will not be assisting in any of the manual labor parts of the flip. I am simply the creative genius…hehe. OK, let’s check out some of the demo photos, shall we: The front entry has seen a big change. The guys removed all the glass block and the staircase leading down to the basement. We plan to close this off to make the foyer a lot more useable and spacious. For now, it’s just a huge hole! What was originally the dining room to the right will now be our living room space. As you can see, all the old floors are gone and we are down to the subfloor. And the main wall that separated the back bedroom and the front living area is coming down!! Super exciting!! When you see it next, it will be a completely open concept kitchen and dining room thanks to a giant beam that we’ll be putting in. Ryan told me how much it will weigh and now I forget because I have baby brain…but it was a lot, I know that!! Eventually there will be a gorgeous kitchen here with patio doors heading out to the deck! Can’t wait to get on this design!
I had to do some careful maneuvering to get into the main floor bath. Total gut job here people!! Gone is the double kitchen too. We are planning to make this area a really great laundry space and the back kitchen will be a bedroom. The master bedroom upstairs is definitely changing too. You can see that we have taken out the tiny closet on the right – it really opens it up and allows me to stage a sweet little nook. Perhaps a reading nook 🙂 The old bathroom that was incredibly stinky is thankfully gone and will eventually be transformed into a master closet instead. And here is the location of our upstairs bathroom! Yes, we are taking one of the existing bedrooms and using that primo real estate to create a gorgeous master bath. It will definitely be a challenge with all of the sloped rooflines but I am up for the task! And of course, here is the discovery of the week…the brick chimney. Not only will this be a beautiful bathroom but it will also have BRICK in it! C’mon!!! And there you have it! What do you think so far?! Any ideas that come to mind or thoughts you’d like to share?! Maybe a comment about the brick?!?!?! lol
