HELP! Which Master Bedroom Design Is Better?

As the Ravine House master bathroom reno continues, it’s time for me to continue planning the rest of the upstairs. The hardwood has been chosen, the paint is in and now, I need to focus on my master bedroom design! And I need some help!!!

Ok here’s the dilemma – I want to try and keep it on the budget friendly side and spend the majority of the moola on lighting. I’m not able to factor a new bed frame into the budget, so I am opting for the “no headboard” look and will probably jazz the bed up with some new pillows (insert Ryan groaning here – he hates how many pillows we own!). I can keep my existing side tables (old ones from Ikea – nothing special) and potentially spend a little more on an area rug OR I could get some new mid century inspired pieces but then skimp on other areas. Take a look below and let me know which one you think could work better…master bedroom design option 1Master Bedroom Design 1: Chandelier and Sconces are from West Elm, side tables I found on Wayfair.ca but Target has some similar for much cheaper, I plan to use my Laure Joliet Print possibly above the bed, this dresser is also a West Elm find and the rug is from Rugs USA just for inspiration – I’ll probably try to find something local instead.
master bedroom design option 2Master Bedroom Design 2: For this design, I have kept my original Ikea tables, the dresser is similar to the one above but it has the white top & sides versus the front.

So the question of the day is – do you think I can get away with keeping my old end tables? Which dresser option looks better?? Comment away and help this girl out!

  • Both are so good! I can see why this is hard!

I want to say number one because I love the design, but number two makes me feel more peaceful & sleepy, which screams bedroom vibes. I also didn’t notice the lightening until the second photo. The white on white on white makes those lights pop! Maybe you could splurge on the dresser from number one and use the rest from number two? I almost bought an exact replica of the dresser from number one for our condo, so I know F2 has them.

Whatever route you go, I know it will be great. I cannot wait to see you put it all together. XO

    • Ok so I totally agree with the white on white making the lights pop so I started to fluctuate to that design. I’m now going to have to check out F2…was it pricey??

  • this is so hard!! I think I love the combo of the wooden side tables and dresser of the first one though. I wish we lived closer to the states to do a road trip to target and such!

  • The end tables in #1 are awesome! I think…#1 would be my choice. Love the rug! And…West Elm does have the best lighting!

  • I’m super into option 1. I’m a sucker for mid century pieces and mixing woods. I do love that chandelier though. I’m excited to see how it turns out!

  • I agree with Justine! I love the all white of #2 because let’s be serious, that lighting is the star of this show. The dresser from #1 is just too good though! Might also be easy enough to DIY and paint the drawer fronts of a secondhand dresser white to help keep costs down?

    • I was totally thinking I would DIY a dresser like this with that basic wood one you can get from Ikea. Janna did a version when she moved in and it looks amazing. But maybe I will scour Kijiji and the second hand places too to see if I can find an old mid century mod piece…

      • ^^^^ DO THISSSS ^^^ because it will be hella lovely!

To answer your question below, I believe the F2 ones were over 2000.00, which may not entirely be worth it given all the other awesomeness in that room. Sometimes you can score a floor model for cheeper though . . . They went from 2200.00 to 1300.00 for me. The antique mall also has TONS of midcentury loveliness right now.
