I’m back!! Sorry for the little blogging hiatus but I was in serious need of a little rejuvenation and relaxation, which I definitely achieved this past week. Now I’m ready to get back into action!
This past week we took a little break to BC and I have to say, I absolutely love a good summer road trip! I’m the kind of person that packs a cooler full of snacks and sandwiches, creates an epic playlist and gets settled in for the long haul. And, I am definitely the person that looks for the random fruit stand on the side of the road to pull over for. The small stops in small towns are what make a road trip so fun!
This summer, our family decided to rent a houseboat in the Shuswaps, and though I had been a few times before with friends, this was sure to be a different kind of trip. So Ryan and I packed up our stuff and headed out to B.C., making some fun pit stops along the way. Here are some highlights of our road trip fun!
A stopover in Revelstoke was amazing. I never knew it had so many adorable cafes and restaurants. We ate here at the Main Street Cafe and it was delicious.
Another stop for the night in Salmon Arm before getting on the houseboat in Sicamous. The rain didn’t dampen our spirits and we even got a bit of pool time. I dove head first into this novel too. Circling the Sun just may be my top read of the summer so far, it was that good! I finished it in 3 days!! So, more on that in an inspired read post shortly. We took my niece Sadye to the Enchanted Forest, which was always a popular stop when I was road tripping as a kid. It brought back so many childhood memories! On the houseboat! Ryan was a great captain – commanding our ship with care and precision…and never speeding…;)We docked in some of the more remote areas of the Shuswaps, preferring the quiet beaches to the busy party areas. Because of that, we discovered some pretty beautiful spots. My sweet little nieces loved the water and it was surprisingly less cold than I remembered. At one point, Ryan drifted off so far that he needed rescuing. But I can’t blame him…that solitude looks heavenly! And though I didn’t wander off quite as far as Ryan, I got my float on too! On the way home, we stopped for a night in Banff, eating at one of our favourite restaurants – The Bison. Then a quick pit stop in Calgary to pop into West Elm and then meet my dear friend Erin at an adorable new cafe called Little Henry (located right in front of the main restaurant, Ten Foot Henry).
It was a wonderful week away but as always, coming home feels so good! There’s nothing like sleeping in your own bed. And I have so much to do to finish up our bedroom and master bath, so it’s especially good to be back. I’m feeling ready to tackle the design head on. So off I go!
