One of my favourite things that has come from starting this blog is that I’ve had the chance to get to know some incredibly amazing people I otherwise would never have met. These ladies are hugely talented, very supportive and just plain awesome. The blogging community that has sprung up in the last couple of years is quite simply fantastic and so I wanted to do a post that highlighted a handful of these lovely people in Edmonton – bloggers, photographers, makers, artists! I asked them all to tell me one item on their wish list this Christmas season and why they were hoping to find it nestled under the tree 😉 Take a look at their picks, visit their amazing sites and, hopefully, this will be the first instalment of a yearly holiday blogger wish list…yeg edition, of course!
My wish list item is a blush moroccan handira pillow from my friend Melinda’s store: MindaHome. Her pillows are all handmade out of ethically sourced, authentic wedding blankets! She is very passionate about supporting local artisans in various countries and I am always so proud to support her. I have a couple of her pieces already and you can easily tell the difference between reproductions and authentic pieces like hers as they are extremely heavy, detailed and yet durable! This blush one has been calling my name for some time now and I am hoping Santa gets the memo! – Holly
I think I mentioned before that my one item on my wish list this year is something from Pura Botanicals. Specifically, I’m really interested in meeting with Lane (cause she sounds absolutely lovely and cool) and concocting a personal, bespoke scent just for me. I’ve always been really into a signature scent, maybe because I have such vivid memories of special people in my life and the way they smelled (ex: my grandma, who always smelled like a combination of baking and the rose-y, original scent of Oil of Olay!). – Kassey
This year the Wayne Goss Makeup brush set is high up on my wish list. I have one of the brushes and now want the whole set. They are that good!! These brushes are on the expensive side but as a makeup artist I find that my pricier brushes last years while cheaper brushes end up only lasting a few months. Having these brushes would make any makeup novice feel like a pro since the brushes are such high quality and they help to apply product in an easier way. Wayne Goss is a makeup artist himself and I really love supporting brands that were created by the artists. – Janna
‘The Luxe Blanket’ made my holiday wish list for several reasons. First, it reminds me of the knitted goods my gramma makes, which warms my heart tremendously. Second, who doesn’t want to hide from Jack Frost & get cozy under a thick handmade blanket?! I imagine it pairs well with ‘a good book + vino’ & ‘loved ones + Netflix’, the perfect recipe for a winter night at home. Lastly, this product is locally made, so you know who you are supporting. – Justine
I’m in the process of sprucing up my office so I have been eyeing some new things! I’m really loving the Honey Tree Prints and even though I was originally looking for some fun typography prints, I’m also loving this abstract one from the Honey Tree line. It would definitely update my workspace while keeping the space minimal and bright 🙂 – Nicole
On my wish list: rolls of film, preferably expired. A while back, it actually felt as though Christmas had arrived early when I received a ’71 Polaroid 420 Automatic Land Camera, in pristine condition, I might add, from a dear family friend. After a bit of research & some help from a local YEG film photographer, I found a way to create instant magic again without having to convert the original battery slot (!!!). And so began the search for film. Luckily, Fuji makes a compatible film, though only in colour, which is why my wish list item mentions expired film. For quite some time, Fuji also made B&W film and now, the last of it is out there, pricey & expired, and I sure do hope Santa sneaks a few packs under the tree. – Aislin
My splurge-worthy holiday wish list item is a custom pair of perfectly lady-like yet subtly sexy Lace-up Ankle Booties from Poppy Barley! With a hit of black python for some va-va-voom, these heels are the perfect accessory for a night on the town in my LBD and leather moto, with my partner-in-crime (aka my husband) by my side. I love the way that Poppy Barley footwear feels on my feet (3 pairs of flats already live in my closet), and the fact that they are designed in Edmonton and made by hand in Mexico especially for me makes my heart (and my tootsies) so happy! – Nicole
I’m making a conscious effort to purchase from makers this holiday season. Jason’s activity book has been on my radar since he launched his kickstarter a little while back. I am a super fan of Edmonton and this book is something that my daughter, Ruby, and I can do together! – Justine
This year my holiday wish list is much smaller than usual but much more thought has gone into it. As I work towards shifting my spending habits to support businesses that represent my values, what I want for myself has changed. Pura is a company I’ve only recently learned of but I love the story and values behind the brand. Plus the fact that they’re yeg based and Lane is such a sweetheart is just a bonus! On my wish list from Pura would be the overnight watermelon mask. As I get older my skincare is becoming more and more important and I think this luxurious mask would be a great addition to my routine! – Diana
I just left Poppy Barley and I can tell you these ankle boots in black are definitely on my wish list!! – Christine
