I apologize!! But I have to interrupt my regularly scheduled travel post this Tuesday to share some exciting news. Yes, we are MOVING!! Last week, Ryan and I finalized the details on our new home purchase and sold our sweet little Hazeldean bungalow to a lovely couple. It’s a little bittersweet leaving a home we have loved for 4 years but we are so excited to begin a new chapter and fall in love with another place. And we can’t wait to share this new home with all of you! Here are some of the things that drew us to the Ravine house (the new name I just gave it though I’m not sure if I’ll stick with lol).
- LOCATION! It is literally steps away from the Mill Creek Ravine and across the street from a huge trail system by Edmonton’s Old Timer’s Cabin. When you drive into the neighbourhood it almost doesn’t feel like Edmonton at all. So even though we loved Hazeldean, we felt that going slightly north wasn’t a bad trade off when the ravine is literally your back yard.
- SPACE! This house gives us a bit more space for entertaining, a bigger bathroom, and an attached garage with the biggest deck you ever did see. We love the layout and the fact that it is a two storey (I’ve lived the majority of my life in bungalows). Other bonuses: a fireplace! a walk through master closet! an open staircase to the second level! a half bath on the main level! So many great features!
- POTENTIAL!! While this house is quite dated and needs work from top to bottom, we can absolutely envision how spectacular it will be with a little love. You can imagine how much I’m itching to get my hands on it already! We have some big plans and can’t wait to start tearing it a part. And while it will eventually end up being a flip and we will sell down the road, for now I can’t wait to live in something we design and execute ourselves.
And so, let me take you on a little tour – the before photos of the Ravine house: The main living room gets a ton of natural light and the wood burning fireplace is a great addition. I love that the ceiling is sloped and can picture a show stopping fireplace as the feature of this room. I also love the staircase that separates the two living spaces – all it needs is some new paint and hardwood flooring. This dining area is massive but it will take some serious space planning to create the right feel. I still want a comfortable seating area here, maybe an office nook, in addition to a dining room table and chairs. Ryan and I want to take out the main windows in favour of french doors leading out onto the patio. The kitchen needs some reconfiguration and, of course, an update. Those appliances must be original to the house!! But for the time being, we are happy to do some cooking and hosting here until we can gut it and start fresh. It’s great to have a half bathroom on the main floor for guests and there’s so much extra storage here. Love it!Our master bedroom is much bigger than we are used to, with a walk through closet to the master bath. Again, I love the sloped ceilings in this room and the view from our window is a partial city view of downtown Edmonton. I think after I get my hands on this room, pull out the carpet and repaint the pink walls, it will be beautiful! The master bath – this will be our first project of the house. I’ve already started designing it and shopping for new products. Just you wait!! The very purple bedrooms need a lot of paint! One of our very favourite parts of the house – the deck. I can’t wait to get some patio furniture and host a big party here! We’ve got some landscaping to do back here (and this tree house will have to go so the dogs have some space). What you can’t see here is the separate entrance to the walkout basement, which is actually a full suite. We are so happy to have our bestie Janna moving in with us – her very own home within our home. I can’t wait to show it to you once we fix it up a bit and put that Janna touch on it!
Thanks for touring our new home with us! Stay tuned for our first leg of the journey and see what we have in store for the upper level! xo
