Well, our road trip travels have come to an end, which makes me a bit sad because it also means summer is quickly drifting by. But this particular trip was so wonderful! We had perfect weather, got to visit with friends and family and see some great places. We broke up the long drive with several stops across beautiful British Columbia, with our final stop being in Seattle, which was a new destination for both Ryan and I. Here are some of the highlights!
Ryan did most of the driving (thankfully!!) so I was always on food duty. Big bite and little bite 🙂
Our first stop was in Jasper to spend some time in the Rocky Mountains – always a good idea! We did some hiking and ended up being around Pyramid Lake. A beautiful location that we would definitely come back to. There were some adorable bungalows nearby to stay in, which would be great for a weekend getaway with our pups. Jasper is so dog friendly, we love it!
(Pyramid Lake, with its small island)
Then we were off to drive by the stunning Mount Robson, the Rocky Mountain’s biggest and best! We got lucky with almost zero clouds to cover its peak!
(I always put my feet up on the dash)
Next stop was Timothy Lake by 100 Mile House in B.C. where my family has a beautiful spot. And I was so thankful to get to spend some time with a few of them, go water skiing (though my body hurt after!!) and just be at the lake again! I basically grew up on Pigeon Lake. Since the sale of our cabin several years ago, I have begun to miss it terribly, especially in the summer. Being at the lake is the most special…it is a big part of who I am. I can’t even describe the feeling of waking up with a coffee, pulling up a chair and watching the lake slowly come to life. Morning lake time is my favourite.
I was sad to leave the lake behind – I could have definitely used another day to relax there – but we were off to Vancouver!Driving through the interior of B.C. was exciting for Ryan – all those curvy roads! But it got really, really hot! The breeze of the ocean was a welcome change.
When we arrived in Vancouver, we stayed at an adorable apartment in Kitsilano we found through AirBnB. Staying at a place like this rather than a hotel was perfect for us. We felt like we were experiencing the community more and Paula, our host, was very helpful! It was the perfect start to the next leg of our journey.
We hit Vancouver at the perfect time before leaving for Seattle – experiencing some thrilling events like the Celebration of Lights and Gay Pride. I thought I would save both these cities though for separate posts to really fill you in. So, tomorrow, I will continue with highlights from both of these super cities!
Hope you are having a happy weekend! xo
