…that is, according to me…
After seeing some of the ‘best of” lists and reading quite a few novels, both fiction and non, this year, I feel confident in telling all of you MY choice for the best novel of 2014.
Set in World War II, All the Light We Cannot See is the best historical fiction novel of the year. It tells the story of two young children, Marie-Laure and Werner, growing up in two very different circumstances in Europe until their destinies converge in Saint Malo on the coast of Brittany, just as the war reaches a turning point. Both of their stories are beautifully written and captivating. “Deftly interweaving the lives of Marie-Laure and Werner, Doerr illuminates the ways, against all odds, people try to be good to one another. Ten years in the writing, All the Light We Cannot See is his most ambitious and dazzling work.” I highly recommend it!
Now recently, Good Reads released their Best Books of 2014 and broke them into 20 categories from Fiction to Picture Books. The reasons I love this list so much are 1. the books are chosen by readers like moi 2. the list is really diverse and has something for everyone and 3. I haven’t read A LOT of them, which just gives me more inspiring reads to reach for in the near future. So, in this post, I would like to include the books that I am most looking forward to picking up before the year is out.
I’ve got some work to do before going back to work, it seems!! Can’t wait to dive into some of these!
I would love to hear about your favourite read of the year and which books made it into your must read list!
