Every now and again, I get this impulse to change my hair. Usually the impulse may only amount to a change in part (not very drastic, I realize) but other times, I come out of that salon chair with a lot. less. hair. Yes, this time around I did in fact cut my hair into a blunt bob! And yes, the first week was all about figuring out what the f@$% to do with it. Luckily, I have talented people in my life and they have saved me from hair ruin by teaching me the best way to style short hair. So today, I have to share some tips and tricks that I have learned from my Behind the Blush cohorts (what would I do without you!)
What I’ve learned:
1. Invest in a good curling mousse! Luckily, I have just the suggestion for both short and long haired ladies. Davines’ Curl Moisturizing Mousse. I find it works really well, delivering a soft curl that is never too crunchy. And, bonus, it does moisturizing duty too. Apply this guy to damp hair and let it do its thing.
2. I find that my hair looks best when I allow it to dry naturally…when you don’t have time for this, make sure a diffuser is a part of your blow drying regimen. And make sure you are not blow drying your hair on the highest heat.
3. Using a flat iron, alternate between soft vertical curls and horizontal crimp like waves. Click here to see Stef tackle this technique.
PS – I am still practicing this!! And when I complained to Sarah of CazooArtistry of my fumbling fingers, she said to use a normal curling iron first and then a flat iron to gently press the curls. This creates that more relaxed, soft look. Definitely trying this!
4. A great tip is if you are short on time, just curl the top layer!
5. Finish with a bit of pomade and hairspray. Don’t be afraid to touch your hair, move it around and just let it look a little undone.
Big thanks to Behind the Blush for teaching me how to tackle my tresses. And to CazooArtistry for chopping my locks! I think it will be a great hairstyle for the summer!
