With Halloween only 2 weeks away, most of us are feeling a little eager to decorate. But, if you’re like me you’re probably tired of the kitschy plastic pumpkins and uninspiring fake cobwebs that typically haunt the holiday year after year. Well, it doesn’t have to be that way! Those overdone decor items shouldn’t spook you away from getting in the spirit of All Hallow’s Eve! There are plenty of options when it comes to having a modern and minimalistic look, while still celebrating the essence of the holiday. Here are some of my chic Halloween decor tips for keeping your space looking tasteful!
Go Minimal
Just think less is more! There really is no need to plaster your whole house with spooky stuff. I love some of these simple ideas:
A spooky, twig wreath is an easy DIY that will make a big statement – especially on a white wall or a front door.I absolutely love this Fall Leaf Mobile. It doesn’t necessarily scream Halloween (more so just fall in general) but you could totally customize it to fit your decor needs. This Boo fabric banner is another simple DIY that looks great hung next to some gourds and fall foliage.
Modernize Your Pumpkins
Decorating pumpkins is so much fun and the new, modern ideas people have now are incredible. Here are some of my favourites.Adding glitter, jewels, or shiny copper or gold spray paint is so easy and definitely modern. This grouping looks amazing with the gold lantern as well.
DIY Mudcloth pumpkins?! Are you kidding?? That’s amazing! I love these!
And, of course, I will never be opposed to a simple grouping of white gourds. A go to in my house.
Keep it Classic
There are always some classics that will remain tried and true decor additions on Halloween. Like these…Filling some black lanterns with large white candles or bundles of gourds will always look stylish on your front step.I can’t think of a better Halloween drink than hot apple cider. And making a batch makes your house smell amazing.Skulls can tend to get kitschy but what I like about these ones is their modern take. And a skull will always be a classic at Halloween. Find plain white skull planters like these ones and fill with some succulents.
When in Doubt Go Black
Fake houseplants can get a coat of black paint and look stellar as a centrepiece or on a shelf/mantel. Take some of your recycled wine bottles and give them the black treatment. Add some black candles and you’re good to go!And one of my favourites – the matte black pumpkin. Makes a gorgeous, spooky statement.
What are your favourite chic Halloween decor ideas?!? Happy Halloween everyone! xo
