Today, I must interrupt the regularly scheduled blog post in favour of an important announcement – Benjamin Moore’s Colour of the Year! 2016 has fittingly been dubbed the year of Simply White! It’s easy to understand that the design community would be a little divided on this choice – to some, white isn’t even a colour. But I’m so happy they chose this elegant, warm white. I included it in my favourite white paint post, and described Simply White as clean and bright with the right amount of softness. It does have a bit of a yellow undertone but, I’ve always said, it is generally less prominent than other white paints. It really has the perfect balance of softness and crispness. I used Simply White when designing the Beaumont Dream House and it quickly became one of my favourites. This space had a lot of natural light from the large windows but really dark cabinetry. The wall colour worked perfectly with the other elements to create a subtle harmony. I really feel that using the right white paint will bring out the other colours and textures in the room. It’s almost like working with a perfect blank canvas. Here are some other spaces that showcase this colour trend perfectly:
