Have you noticed the trend happening in bedrooms as of late? A trend I have clearly gotten on board with? I know there are a lot of people out there who struggle with styling their beds…I mean some of us simply don’t have time to arrange 8 lovely pillows every morning. If you fall into either camp, or if you’re just like me and love the look of a clean and simple bed, then this trend may be worth adopting! Let me introduce the extra long lumbar pillow!!
We’ve all been drawn to those perfectly styled beds on Pinterest, but let me tell you from experience, that getting that “effortless look” is much more than tossing a few pillows and casually draping a throw. Those beds have more than likely gone through many tweaks and versions before snapping the photo. But here’s the thing…one lumbar pillow can really simplify the process and it’s why I am loving ours! It takes barely any effort to make the bed and the paired down styling feels minimal and clean.
We placed ours in front of our two sleeping pillows, though there are other combos that can work just as well. Here are some beautiful bedroom spaces that prove this pillow styling works so well:
Believe it or not Francois et Moi DIY’ed this lumbar from a table runner – she’s talented yes! I also love that she added a couple of white euro pillows behind it for a nice contrast. The lumbar pops against the neutral palette.
The queen of styling Emily Henderson might have created the perfect bed (and truthfully was a major source of inspo for me when deciding to pair down to a single lumbar pillow). I love the combination here – the richness of the fabrics and the balance in the textures. She kept the lumbar pillow pattern minimal with some simple stripes, which is absolutely gorgeous.
Amber Interiors is a big fan of the extra long lumbar pillow – so many of her beds feature one. I do love that she added another small cushion in front in this particular scenario. The combination is a textural dream!
Studio McGee also styled a beautiful bed with an extra long lumbar. I love how they stacked two sleeping pillows with two shams, and then simply placed the lumbar in front. Also on a side note, it works so well that the shams and throw compliment each other. Nothing has to be too matchy matchy and this styling proves that.
And then finally, A Cup of Jo went bold with this patterned and colourful combo! The pillows’ hues all work well with the richness of the headboard and contrast nicely against the simple duvet. This lumbar is whimsical and fun – perfect if you want to make a seasonal switch!
Now for some of my current favourites that all stole my attention while shopping for my own. They are at least 30″ long which will work on both a queen or king, but most fall into what I like to call the sweet spot…36″! Take a look!
