After reading the title to this post, you may be thinking…didn’t she JUST post about moving and doing a huge whole house renovation like…yesterday?? And I would say to you…yes, yes I did. And then I would tell you this little nugget of advice: NEVER purchase two houses at the same time unless you want to go slightly crazy! haha! But before I go into that, let me present to you our 4th house flip – another amazing property in good ‘ol Capilano. The story behind this house is kind of amazing…the current owners inherited the house after their parents decided to move on and downsize (they were original owners I believe). They had been following the blog and knew how we flipped houses. So, they reached out to us…they had a house that needed a major update and wanted to know if we were interested in taking it on. After a few meetings and touring the home, it was clear how much they cared about the house – I mean, it had been in their family for generations. Which made taking on this project even more exciting and meaningful. So about a week or so ago, at exactly the same time as we were signing the papers for the Ravine house, we also signed the papers to purchase this lovely home. Ready to see the before photos??!!Let’s start at the front door that leads into the large family room. It’s pretty dark, with the wood panelling but it has a great closet and lots of space! Gotta love these 1950’s style bungalows! The layout is so similar to the other Capilano flip we did but these windows are even bigger, which is great! I actually love the cabinets and backsplash in this kitchen lol. The vintage style still sings to my heart. But, unfortunately it all has to go! We will also be removing this wall to make it open concept to the living room – again very similar to our other Capilano home. This is the current master bedroom and yes…that is a fuzzy, carpeted wall you are seeing. The homeowner loved that you could write messages or do a little drawing on it haha. How awesome is that?! The current bathroom is very…pink. But hey, it’s very close to Pantone’s colour of the year..maybe we could keep the tub?? lolThe addition: some years ago, the family added this very unique addition off of one of the bedrooms. For many years, they had a hot tub here! Can you say party house?! At first, this seemed really overwhelming to renovate but then I thought about how amazing this could be as the new master and ensuite! Those beams could actually look really cool painted white…what do you think?!? This will take a lot of work but I think the ensuite should be located in the bedroom space…walk in closet where the hot tub was…and the master bedroom down here with the sliding doors. I dunno, could be magical!!The back landing has a funky brick facade – but again, lots of space to work with! Clearly this basement saw a lot of parties – it has retained all of its Hawaiian charm and it almost breaks my heart to tear it a part. Maybe the new homeowners would appreciate a tiki bar in their basement?? The basement bedroom has a lot of wood panelling again and then this really funky fireplace. Now the fireplace itself can definitely be changed but I actually LOVE this stacked brick!! And finally, the basement bathroom and laundry area is pretty sparse – which works really great for us. Less to demo!
And so there you have it – the complete before tour of the Capilano house flip (part deux). I don’t know if you can tell just from the photos – but this home saw a lot of love, laughter and life over the years and Ryan and I feel really privileged that it made its way into our hands. We really want to do it justice and honour the people who have passed it on to us. They are wonderful people.
I would love to hear your thoughts so comment away people!! And have a great weekend too 😉
Hey!!! I know some people who would love most of this tiki stuff, They would even come take it down for you!
Give them my number!!! LOL
YASSSS!! Another flip! I really, really, really love that addition & your master bedroom plan!
Yay!!! I’m glad you like that idea Justine! Who knows if we can actually pull it off :S
Yay!! I’m glad! It’s a bit intimidating! lol
The first thing that caught my eye was that backsplash! Love it! I can’t wait to see what you do with this house. 🙂
I know, the backsplash is seriously awesome! This house is such a gem!
