I cannot believe I am saying this, but I have a two year old!!
This past year, Jack hasn’t really graced the pages of the blog as often, since I chose to focus a little less on lifestyle and a lot more on design/decor. In his first year, I did some regular posts, documenting our journey together. But, from one to two, I decided not to write full posts and opted for some small shares on social media, and keeping a lot of the day to day moments private. I’ve realized, however, that a lot of people still love to engage with me on motherhood topics (not just design!) and get updates about Jack! So today I wanted to do a birthday post to my boy and bring you along too. Here’s what I can tell you about Jack at two years old…
At two years old…Jack is a typical toddler, with a mind of his own! He has opinions and isn’t afraid to tell us! But I love how much his personality is developing, even if at times it can be a challenging one. He is playful, kind and funny. Sensitive and quiet one minute, then outgoing and rowdy the next.
At two years old…we have established a really smooth routine. He loves his daycare (mainly because he has developed this incredibly special bond with one of his teachers), is a great sleeper (that took a long time though to be clear!) and knows what to expect day to day. We still struggle with food routines since pickiness is constantly in the way, but I don’t imagine that’s unique to us. The vegetable struggle is real!
At two years old…Jack has his own language that is so adorable. He is a chatterbox and doesn’t seem to realize that everything he says isn’t clear as day. There are certain words and phrases he mastered early on but I know that one day I will really miss “Jack’s language” Right now my favourite is when he says wataaa (a slightly British version of water), hee-haw (a long drawn out haaaaw when he sees a donkey) and see you soon!! And of course, nothing beats him screaming Mommy and running towards me when I pick him up from daycare.
At two years old…he is ALL about cars, trucks and buses. Colouring and play doh are definitely favourite activities, though I wish that held is attention a touch longer. Books still bring a lot of joy and reading is a big part of our day to day routine. I love when he finds a book he loves and then plops down in my lap to snuggle in and listen. It’s very precious.
This past year has been such a gift with our Jack, though not without its challenges. I found it so exciting to see how much he changed from year one to two and I know you’ll agree! It’s hard to put into words, so I will let this short video pick up where I’ve left off.
Turn up the volume and enjoy a highlight reel of Jack’s second year:
