Recently, I was approached by Parachute Home to talk about my summer sleep essentials, if there was indeed anything I did to get the bedroom ready for the hotter temperatures. After browsing their lovely site and drooling over their luxury bedding & decor, I was so excited to jump on board! There are most definitely some steps I take to lighten up my space, making it feel fresh and summery. And I also find that adding some must have items definitely helps battle the heat!
Change the Duvet
First thing’s first, I always change our duvet the minute we start needing to open the window for fresh air. I have one that’s down filled and much thicker for winter and one that’s much lighter for summer. It’s an easy, simple switch that absolutely saves us! And it prolongs the life of both our duvets!
Switch Up the Sheets
In summer, it’s important to have natural linens that are made of breathable materials. We sweat a lot in our sleep (eew I know!) and even more so when it’s hot outside. Obviously cotton or percale sheets (like these from Parachute) are great because cotton is cool, soft and comfortable and it absorbs and releases perspiration quickly. And cotton is affordable! Linen is also great too because it breathes well and has a natural cooling effect. Just so long as a little wrinkling doesn’t bother you! I opt for a combination: my sheets and pillow cases are cotton and my duvet cover is linen! And all in white of course! (though I wouldn’t say no to this duvet cover!)
Find a Fan or Two
I picked up this small, white fan from Home Sense a year or two ago and it always finds itself perched on our dresser in the summer. I love it because it’s quiet and small, stylish (it matches my decor perfectly), and still blows a good amount of air.
Rethink Your Nighttime Wardrobe
In the winter, you may find me in anything from long pyjama pants to long sleeved nighties but less is definitely more when it’s warm out. I have a few summer PJ options that are light and airy. These shorts from Gap are perfect to wear on super hot nights because they are so incredibly thin…and so comfortable!!
Think about Bedside Accessories
I typically drink tea before bed in the winter, but it’s essential to have H2O at my bedside in the warmer months. So, a beautiful water carafe is a definite part of my summer sleep essentials.
I also tend to pick lighter, fruitier scents in the summer like this Diptyque candle.
Add in some Green
There’s nothing like some flowers, succulents or just some plain greenery to freshen up a summer bedroom. It doesn’t have to be much…a little goes a long way!
Pick Up A Summer Must Read
Even though I read religiously throughout every season, summer means I get even more time to spend flipping pages. It just wouldn’t be summer without a great read…or twenty! (I’m in the middle of The Vacationers, from my 2015 summer reading list here). There you have it – my summer sleep essentials! A big thank you to Parachute homes for including me and inspiring me!
I hope you all have cool and comfortable sleeps!!xo

Hahaha I have some pretty good outtakes! Perhaps another post is needed!
