Don’t adjust your eyes…I actually blogged again! I know!!! It’s been far and few between but between life, the pregnancy, Jack, blogging for the Everygirl and then SO much client work, the blog has fallen down the list. Though, don’t despair! Even if it’s not a daily (or weekly, who am I kidding!) occurrence, I won’t be stopping anytime soon AND the posts I do complete should be extra amazing…in theory right?! Anyways, moving on…I don’t know about you, but spring fever officially hit me hard this past week. I felt the sudden urge to purge, clean, and tick off a ton of overdue to-do’s. Plus, do my seasonal shift of decor to make the home feel extra spring-y! Who’s on the same page as me?!
I recently did a small collaboration with Crate and Barrel on refreshing the home for spring and it was super fun! It pushed me out of my ‘non colourful’ comfort zone a bit and I ended up really loving it. So in honour of that, I thought I would share some of my favourite ways to give a space a little refresh and welcome in the new season.
Declutter and Clean
Ok we all do this – nothing new here! I think we can all agree that there is no better time than March to do a good purge and deep clean. Not that my dogs and kid don’t track a whole bunch of muck through the house for the next two months straight…but hey! We need to start sometime…and it feels really good to do this as the winter melts away.
Pack It Away and Then Unpack
So I tend to take the heavier blankets, darker pillow covers, warmer duvets and faux furs and pack those away for fall. Then I dig through my closets and pull out any of the more seasonally appropriate textiles to swap in. I do have some pillow covers that I rotate, partly for longevity too, as our pillows are now getting tossed around and spilt on constantly. But just swapping those textures and heavier fabrics makes a big difference. Also I should mention I also rotate candles/aromas…so I’ll pack away any remaining wintery scents and then pull out the lighter, fresher smelling candles and aromatherapy oils.
Shop the House
Besides digging through my closets, I like to walk around the house and do a “shop.” I’ll move accessories around, change the flow of the furniture and even rotate artwork. It really depends how ambitious I’m feeling but I like to try and keep things feeling fresh and just moving things or finding new homes for items can really give new life to the space. My kitchen shelves for instance…just taking away a few pieces and then adding in some different kitchen accessories (that are functional pieces too btw) completely changed the view!
Add Some Colour and Life
So this was a big part of my recent collab – injecting just a little bit of colour to bring the springtime vibes. My favourite was the mustard and blush combo in our master bathroom, which instantly revitalized the room. The blush towels could definitely come out for the spring/summer season and my mustard vase would look cute just about anywhere. I also quickly DIY’ed some abstract artwork to tie the colour palette together – a super simple way for me to rotate artwork without having to buy anything new.
In terms of “life” I do like to add some new plant babies around this time of year – though there’s nothing wrong with some life like bundles too. I think the more greenery the better, especially at this time of year.
What do you love to do to welcome in the new season in your home? Have any favourite decor items you bring out this time of year?
