I purchased our Sven Sofa from Article just over a year or so ago. When we originally unpacked it and plunked it into our living room, I was ecstatic and couldn’t stop gushing over it and the company that I was proud to call Canadian. And since then, I have convinced several friends and family members to invite the same sofa into their homes and I have seen it pop up in countless spaces of people I follow in the home decor world. I know I’m not the only one that has embraced the Sven and loved it.
But, in terms of seeing it in my personal Instagram posts or hearing my continued thoughts on it…well I’ve been much quieter on that front. And there’s good reason!!! I’ve been using it SO much in our unrenovated side of the house that it NEVER gets photographed. Plus, I would rather die than let it leave the house to stage some of our projects because honestly it is too precious to me and my everyday family life! So it’s quietly sat, getting covered in baby drool, and dog fur, patiently waiting for its moment to shine again 🙂
Now, I think it’s safe to say you already know the answer to the question “does she still love it?” but in terms of the actual sofa and how it’s holding up, I can definitely shed some light. Here is a quick run down on why I do truly believe that the Sven is perfect for family life…(and stick around to the end for something pretty unreal, trust me it’s worth it!!!)
First of all this sofa is affordable. Sure, it’s still an investment but it’s definitely not this crazy expensive piece of furniture that I need to tuck away in a formal living room and cordon off from any sort of action. I did a lot of leather furniture shopping before I settled on this one and it was the most affordable option before compromising quality and style.
The design itself is definitely conducive to family life. I used to have a sofa that had three bench seats and I felt like I was constantly cleaning in between the cushions. With Jack, I could only imagine what I would find nestled in the couch if the Sven didn’t have one single tufted bench. Truthfully, the back cushions do get a little slouchy and some people don’t care for that. But I like that it looks a bit frumpy and relaxed. I did hear that one blogger had stuffed some basic king pillows inside so they would stand up a bit better but that’s purely for the look. The cushions themselves are all comfortable and great for lounging together. Not to mention that Jack loves playing in them and throwing the bolsters around.
Stains, scratches and spills happen all the time – no shocking news there. But with leather, those imperfections can actually look really good. I love that our Sven is starting to look a little more aged and weathered, like a great vintage piece. A few months ago, we had a really big spill that went unnoticed from a water bottle. At first I was worried but after I did my best to dry it out, it ended up having a distressed looking spot that didn’t bother me at all. It gave it some character and hey, that’s life! There will be more accidents to come but this couch can handle it.
I have encountered this assumption that once you have a family, nice furniture is impossible to have. I don’t necessarily believe that’s true…it’s just a matter of making the right choice for your family. For me, the Sven was the perfect compromise. It still appeals to my designer heart but it can handle the day to day life with a toddler. In the past year and a half, this couch has seen a tired mother trying to nurse her baby…a little boy cuddling his lovey while he reads a book…a furry dog or two trying to sneak in a cozy nap…friends laughing with glasses of wine…a husband and wife bingeing on Netflix. It’s been the perfect addition to our little family and I would love for it to also be yours. Article and I are thrilled to be giving away a Sven of your own ($2000 store credit!)!!!!!
